Around here we are MEGA LEGO fans. I fondly remember the best Christmas as a child, beside the year we got a play kitchen, was the year my parents bought my two sisters and me our own 5,000 piece, bucket of bricks to create whatever our hands and brains could manage. I’ll never forget where the loss of feeling on the sole of my right foot came from. Never.
It only stands to reason then that when I grew up to have a child of my own, he’d start his journey down the LEGO rabbit hole of imagination at an early age. For dexterity, we started him with a massive collection of Mega Bloks that lasted him through the formative years of infancy and toddlerhood.
Then? Well then it was go time.
Now with a collection of over 300 Minifigures and tens of thousands of standard and non-traditional bricks, the kid is well on his way to being a Master Builder all his own at the ripe young age of six.
All this to say that when I heard last fall that Warner Brothers was releasing The LEGO Movie “jaw-dropping, high-octane excitement” was meek in describing my level of joy. The best part is that the film comes out the day before his 6th birthday.
I can confidently tell you that I’m not going to be the one to tell him that they didn’t actually make the movie for his birthday.
